Why does my website say "Not Secure?"

You're serving your website over HTTP—Google doesn't like that.

If you haven't already added an SSL certificate to your website, it's time to. Google is now issuing security warnings for any website still served over HTTP. They're telling users that the website is "Not Secure." Don't worry though, SSL is affordable and easy to install.

Why does my website say "Not Secure?"

You need to add an SSL certificate to your website. The only way to get rid of that "Not Secure" indicator and replace it with a "Secure" one is to install SSL and serve your website via HTTPS. Fortunately, buying an SSL certificate is quick and easy. And if you need help installing it, we've got years of experience and are happy to lend a hand.

Why do I need encryption?

Google wants the entire web to encrypt. It's a matter of basic safety at this point. If we encrypt our communication and our data, we eliminate opportunities for cyber attacks. Google has been pushing for universal encryption for a while, but lately it's really turned up the heat. At the beginning of 2017 it started issuing security warnings to users when a website had an unsecure password field. In October, it expanded to any website with any text field that was not secure. Next, it will be all HTTP sites.

What does encryption do

What does encryption do?

Encryption protects the information sent back and forth between a website and a browser, this is called a secure connection. To do this, one party uses a key to encrypt any data being transmitted, the other party then uses the corresponding key to decrypt the information. This keeps you safe from anyone eavesdropping on the connection and stealing or intercepting information.

I'm not collecting sensitive information, why do I need encryption?

It no longer matters if you're collecting information. Think of cyber security as a collective ecosystem. Any vulnerability can be exploited and the damage may not be limited to a single party. It could affect others. Encryption is no longer optional, it's a baseline requirement—regardless of whether or not you think you need it.

Why should I pay for an SSL certificate?

Two reasons, one is features. Free SSL comes in one variety, domain validated single certificates. If you want to encrypt multiple sites, you need to manage multiple certificates. If you want extended validation, you're out of luck. That's not the case when you pay.

Two, support. You're not going to get a real person answering the phone at all hours a night with free SSL, nor can you get hands-on support with things like installation and renewals. When you pay, you get the benefit for being backed by experts. We can even install your SSL certificate for you.

The Benefits of an SSL Certificate

Beyond simply encrypting your domain's communications, SSL can provide myriad additional benefits.

Against PhishingAuthenticate your identity to help offer assurance to customers and protect them against phishing.
Improve SEO by adding SSL Improve SEO by adding SSL. Google announced encryption is a ranking signal back in 2014.
Gain use of HTTP/2Gain use of HTTP/2, the faster, better-performing successor to HTTP
Access to advanced browser Access to advanced browser functions like geolocation and camera permissions
Strong Industry Standard Encryption

Strong Industry Standard Encryption

Every SSL certificate we sell secures your website with strong 256-bit symmetric encryption. This exceeds current NIST and CA/B Forum standards—these are the accredited bodies that govern SSL. In addition, your certificate comes with a 2048-bit RSA signature key. It would take a supercomputer thousands of years to crack this encryption.

Show Your Customers Who You Are

A standard SSL certificate will activate the "Secure" indicator in your browser's address bar. But why stop there? An Extended Validation SSL certificate activates a unique indicator, which displays your company or organization's name in green next to the URL in your address bar. Nothing sets your brand apart quite like that green address bar. That translates to more conversions.
